Heads and faces are easily recognisable, their unique expressions give them away. The anonymity of a font, though, is a very different thing. Signs as such do not mean anything, only their learned interpretation and uniformity gives writing meaning and turns it into a form of communication. The written word is like a code which we learn to decode. In this work, though, text is not viewed for its readability but for its form, tone and composition.
Creating this typography, the aim was not to create content or to express some essential meaning, but to define space. The font is used to extend or to manipulate the structure of the image. Font becomes ornament and varies between possible meanings and patterns. Text and picture become a single image, playing with the expectations of the viewer, who always tries to cling at least to some recognisable information.
