Klaus Hesse
Klaus Hesse born in Elberfeld studied Photography and Typography at the University of Wuppertal. Following his studies, he worked as an Art Director in Hamburg, Munich and Düsseldorf. Together with Christine Hesse he founded Hesse Design in Düsseldorf in 1988, and in Berlin in 2001. Hesse Design is responsible for the corporate image of numerous renowned German companies. In 2004, the specialist media nominated Hesse Design as the most creative design studio in Germany. In 2006, Klaus Hesse won the design competition at “Kieler Woche”. In 1993, he was appointed Professor for Communication Design in Dortmund and, in 1998, also in Essen. From 1999 to 2020 he taught as professor for conceptual design at the Offenbach am Main University of Art and Design. From 2011 to 2018 he was dean of the art department of the HfG Offenbach. Since many years he is teaching in Australia, China and South Africa too.
Klaus Hesse has been one of the initiator of the "11 Designers" in 2003, the "1st Graphic Design Biennale Germany China" 2010, editor-in-chief of "sushi - Magazine for Young Creativity" from 1998 to 2016 and together with Felix Kosok responsible as curator of the "Making Crisis Visible" exhibition in Frankfurt. Klaus Hesse is a member of the Type Directors Club of New York.

University ranking in Germany:
In 2006 the news magazine »Focus«, in cooperation with the Art Directors Club für Deutschland ranked creative universities for the first time. That year the »Communication Design« course at HfG Offenbach, headed by Prof. Klaus Hesse, took first place. This success was based on the numerous awards won by his students and on his own personal success in competitions.
